PUBLIC DISCLOSURE OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL MANAGEMENT PLAN (ESMP) FOR THE GOMBE STATE UNIVERSITY GULLY EROSION CONTROL PROJECT IN GOMBE STATE BY GOMBE STATE NEWMAP PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION UNIT.

In accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Act Cap E12 LFN 2004, which makes it mandatory for proponents of all new major development activities to carry out Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of their proposed projects, the Federal Ministry of Environment hereby announces a twenty–one (21) working days Public disclosure for information and comments on the Environmental and Social Management Plan Document submitted by Gombe State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP). Project Description:

The proposed remediation works entails the reclamation and rehabilitation of the gully erosion site to reduce the environmental impacts created by flood and removal of topsoil in the targeted area. The proposed activities will employ some civil works such as channelization using flexible and solid structures to line the gully for a stretch of about 3.8km through densly populated area and bio-remediation works of the gully site. Other activities to be carried out include; construction of rectangular concrete stepped channel (Drop structure), collector channels, earth work and excavation, weeping holes, filing and compaction of roads etc. within Gombe State University, Gombe State.
