PUBLIC DISCLOSURE EXERCISE ON THE ESIA FOR THE PROPOSED SOLAR-HYBRID PROJECT AT
FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, IKOT ABASI,
AKWA IBOM STATE BY RURAL ELECTRIFICATION AGENCY (REA).
In accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Act CAP E12 LFN 2004, which makes it mandatory for proponents of all new major developmental activities to carry out EIA for their proposed projects, the Federal Ministry of Environment hereby announces twenty–one (21) working days public display for the draft ESIA report submitted by Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

The proposed project entails the development of a solar-hybrid photovoltaic power plant within the campus of the
Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA), Akwa Ibom State. The project is intended to provide a reliable, clean, and sustainable electricity supply to the University, reduce dependence on diesel generators, and improve overall energy security. The project will involve activities undertaken during the various implementation phases of the project as follows;
- Site clearing.
- Civil, mechanical and electrical works.
- Installation of PV panels and associated plant facilities.
- Construction of training centre.
- Installation of streetlights as well as underground armoured cable for power evacuation.
- An upgrade of some of the existing power distribution infrastructure within the University will be carried out.
- Generation and distribution of electricity to different sections of the University campus.
- Operation of the renewable energy training centre to support learning and capacity development in clean energy technologies.
- Wastes management.
