FEDERAL MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT
PUBLIC DISPLAY FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT (EIA) OF THE PROPOSED NIGERIA INTERNAL SECURITY PROJECT PHASE II BY MINISTRY OF INTERIOR
In accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Act CAP E12 LFN 2004, which makes it mandatory for proponents of all new major developmental activities to carry out EIA for their proposed projects, the Federal Ministry of Environment hereby announces twenty–one (21) working days public display on the draft Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports submitted by Ministry of Interior.
Brief Project Description: –
The proposed phase II project scope includes:
- Border Video Security Surveillance Solution,shall entail strengthening border protection through advanced ICT systems. The project will provide 24/7 surveillance of crossing points, unmanned routes, and frontier communities, generating real-time intelligence against smuggling, trafficking, terrorism, and illegal migration. Surveillance will cover all six geopolitical zones, with installations at major border posts, porous routes, frontier communities, and high-risk trade corridors. Each site will be solar powered with 48-hour backup and connected via secure IP networks to regional data centres and a central command facility in Abuja.
- Prison Security Video Surveillance Solution, shall entail nationwide deployment of advanced ICT infrastructure combining CCTV, wireless networks, trunking systems, national data centres, and solar power solutions. The project will be implemented across correctional facilities in all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, covering 29 states and the FCT, Abuja.
- Critical Infrastructure Solution, shall entail construction of Railway, Dam, Gas & Mining, Power Station, and Port facilities , with 24/7 monitoring, intelligent analytics, and rapid incident response. The project will be implemented across multiple states in Nigeria, covering the all six geopolitical zones. The selected sites reflect areas with high traffic density, critical economic assets, and heightened vulnerability to security threats. In the South-West, major facilities in Lagos and Oyo (Ibadan) will be covered, including railway stations, power installations, ports, and associated infrastructure.
